![]() ![]() This position within the Solid Waste Department reports to the Solid Waste Services Supervisor in the Public Works Division.The City of Scottsdale will incur the cost of all required pre-employment testing.Must obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Certification Card prior to receipt of final job offer and throughout duration of employment. ![]() ![]() This is a safety-sensitive position that requires successfully passing a post-offer DOT drug screen prior to start date.As part of the conditional job offer, candidates must successfully pass the Body Mechanics Assessment prior to the start date.As part of the conditional job offer, candidates must successfully pass the medical exam prior to the start date.Drives large sanitation truck on a relief and training basis.Performs simple maintenance on equipment and assists Equipment Operator II in performing daily pre and post flight CDL equipment check.Operates a large sanitation truck requiring a Class A CDL with no air brake restriction.Replaces damaged residential refuse/recycling containers and delivers containers to new residents.Cleans areas using rake, shovel, pitchfork, and/or broom.Loads brush into rear-loading trucks and compacts it.Works on an established sanitation route manually picking up brush, branches, and other uncontained trash from the City's alleys and streets.Qualifies for a DOT Medical Certification Card on a regular basis as determined by the authorizing DOT physician as appropriate to the job assignment.Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following: Complete OSHA/safety training as required.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.Carry out simple oral and written instructions.Learn job-related procedures and techniques, primarily through on-the-job training, oral instruction, and observation.Learn and follow City and Solid Waste Services policies, rules, and procedures.Listen and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, relating to CDL license holders in the performance of safety-sensitive functions.Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies.Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in motor vehicle operation.Principles and practices of safe motor vehicle operation and maintenance.Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment. Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.Individuals in a CDL position will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law. Must possess within 12 months from hire a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction.Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements Manual labor experience or experience operating a heavy truck and/or construction equipment.See 'Essential Functions' for list of possible duties.This job classification has no supervisory responsibilities.The Solid Waste Equipment Operator I (EO I) is distinguished from the Solid Waste Equipment Operator II (EO II) by the amount of manual labor.Performs manual labor and operates large sanitation truck picking up bulk items, brush and other debris on a sanitation route and/or repair and place refuse and recycling containers. ![]()
